Forget the LandCruiser GR Sport… Nissan unveils Patrol Nismo – the most powerful Patrol ever made   

 

Nismo Motorsports version of Patrol brings 364kW twin-turbo petrol V6 and a more road-focused chassis.


Nissan has unveiled the most powerful Patrol yet after giving its renowned 4×4 the sporty Nismo treatment again – this time for the new, Y63 generation.

The Japanese brand revealed the Y63 Patrol Nismo overnight in Dubai, a fortnight after the model was leaked online.

Australia will be the first right-hand market for the new regular Y63 Patrol from late 2026, though it’s not yet clear if the Nismo (for Nissan Motorsports) variant will be offered in Australia.

Nissan’s global release states the Nismo is “exclusive to the Middle East”

Nissan Australia for now simply said that “it’s very exciting to see the unveil of Y63 Patrol Nismo”.

With Nissan dropping the 5.6-litre V8 that also featured in the previous, Y62 Patrol Nismo, the latest Nismo features the same 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 offered in the new Y63 – but with increased power of 364kW, up from 313kW.

Torque is unchanged at 700Nm, and the Nismo also employs a nine-speed auto, with paddleshift levers.

The Toyota LandCruiser GR Sport, the sportiest version of the Patrol’s arch-rival, features the same 3.3L twin-turbo V6 diesel as all LC300s in Australia – producing 227kW and 700Nm.

Bespoke additions to the Patrol Nismo include a Nismo-tuned E-Damper suspension, 22-inch forged-alloy wheels, additional aerodynamic trim, and a motorsport inspired red and black themed interior design with honeycomb quilting modelled off the exterior grille meshing. 

There is also a Nismo-tuned exhaust system that allows that twin-turbo motor to sing like it should with a deeper note compared to stock.   

Significant cooling system revisions include a front bumper design that’s claimed to improve brake-disc cooling by six percent.  

Being a lowered performance model, ground clearance has been reduced on Patrol Nismo, from 244mm to 195mm. Approach angles are down from 27.5 degrees to 23 degrees, yet departure angles are similar, coming in at 25.5 degrees for Patrol Nismo and 27 degrees for Y63. 

Nismo versions are barely any heavier, with a claimed kerb weight of 2817kg compared with 2813kg for the regular Y63. 

Patrol Nismo retains 8 seats, so the whole family can go for a blast in the dunes.
